Openings työpaja

Culture Current: Openings workshop has kicked off with nine invited international participants

Openings, an intensive three-month workshop in the performing arts in Helsinki, has kicked off with nine invited international participants.

The workshop, organized by Culture Current, aims to develop creative relationships and performance situations through dramatic play and improvisation.

The invited participants, especially diverse in every sense of the word – personality, culture, professional background – have joined the working group to further develop performance practices based on contemporary variations of (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner (IwIP). Professionals from different disciplines are collaborating to co-lead the workshop. The working group includes Hanna Raiskinmäki (acting), Cecilia Paul (acting), Malin Kivelä (writing), Alexander Komlosi (workshop leader, acting, performance) and Jenni-Elina von Bagh (dance).

Alexander Komlosi, the project’s Artistic Director said, “Openings aims to generate new collaborative connections among artists and non-artists based in Finland who may not know each other and have not yet worked together.  We also aim to provide the international community with a means of supporting performative well-being by providing an encouraging space to play, study, and create together.  Our common language is (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner.”

Openings is taking place at Esitystaiteen keskus (Performance Center) and DUV Teatern’s premises in Helsinki twice per week. The workshop will culminate in an open workshop session at the end of May 2022.

The workshop is organized and produced by Kulttuuriyhdistys Culture Current ry, a Helsinki-based arts and education non-for-profit organization.  This project is made possible by the generous financial support from Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike), Finnish Cultural Foundation – Uusimaa Regional Fund, Helsinki City, and The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland.
