Synopsis
Sonja Holm is in her forties, she works as a clerk in a state controlled enterprise. The play deals with her life and how she comes to terms with herself during the course of a year in the end of seventies, starting with a raw, cold February morning, through pleasant summer days to an early August morning. The people in Sonja’s life are her teenage daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend, Sonja’s mother and father, her two friends and the husband of one of the friends. A new love affair also enters the picture.
Together with her two friends, Sonja opens a Summer Café. The three women achieve a very satisfactory work relationship, they have fun together, but they also come to understand one another’s personal problems. Gradually they come to realize that many of the failures in their lives have been due not to their own shortcomings but to the pattern they have been caught up in. A pattern that causes problems for both men and women, but a pattern that can be changed. The women in the play have taken the first step: they have started to question the pattern.
