Hilkka-Liisa (Hili) Iivanainen

Hilkka-Liisa (Hili) Iivanainen (b. 1980) is a playwright, screenwriter and curator and one of the artistic directors of Tampere Theatre Festival. From 2015 until 2018, Iivanainen served as the artistic director of Helsinki’s Teatteri Jurkka.

Iivanainen has directed several new contemporary dramas in Finland, including works based on the writings of Elfriede Jelinek, Caryl Churchill and Zinnie Harris, as well as a series of classic plays. Her works have been performed across Finland and in Mexico and the United States. She is currently working as a director and festival curator and has been appointed to serve on the International Ibsen Award Committee for the next three years.

Airbnb Baby (MyBaby), Iivanainen’s joint production with playwright Salla Viikka, was commission for the Helsinki-based KOM-teatteri theatre. Iivanainen directed the play’s premiere in 2017.
