ACT ONE

SCENE 2 Iina and Sampo’s apartment. Iina is wearing a nightgown.

SAMPO
We have a shitton of baking paper. Where did all those rolls come from? Eight rolls and you never bake. Then there’s some plastic objects over there.. Total garbage. Useless. We should get rid of everything right away. Right? Everything that we don’t get rid of right away will someday come back and haunt us.. Hah. Do you remember?

He shows her the knife which is in a leather sheath, perhaps from the Middle East. He wiggles the knife around.

Jamba jamba. Hah. He passes the knife to Iina. Do you remember?

IINA
I remember.

SAMPO
Let’s take baby steps, baby steps. Since we’re not in any sort of hurry. Right? Iina? Aren’t you going to get dressed? You should get dressed. I don’t want to have to tell you what to do.

IINA
Then don’t. Iina sinks to the floor.

SAMPO
It’s okay if you feel like you only want to exist. Maybe today isn’t the day you get dressed.

IINA
Maybe it isn’t. What if that day never comes?

SAMPO
If you could say, what should I do? I don’t know.

IINA
Are you bored of me?

SAMPO
I am not bored of you.

IINA.
You look bored.

SAMPO Goes to lie down next to Iina.
I am not bored. I’m trying to make some sort of connection with you. ‘Connection, you know? Do you feel the connection?’ Bzz. Bzz.

Pokes Iina around.

IINA
What’s so hard about that?

SAMPO
I understand that you’re not being yourself.

IINA
I am being myself.

SAMPO
What are you doing?

IINA
Nothing. It’s so strange, that apartment across from us.

SAMPO
Which apartment?

IINA
The one with that woman who just stares.

KATRI
Our curtains are usually closed though.

IINA
They were open.

KATRI
What are you talking about? Our curtains are usually closed.

IINA
Maybe they were closed. There was some sort of fire there. Was that other man Sampo?

KATRI
What fire? What are you talking about?

IINA
It looked like there was fire over there. Or was it Saltsi?

KATRI

Listen. Excuse me for saying this, but you look a little lost. Is everything fine with you?

IINA
Everything is fine. Just fine. I should move somewhere else. My husband has already gotten us a new one. A new apartment. He’s already living in the new one. He already moved there.

KATRI
