New Nordic Voices - a showcase and more
Cut the Cord are excited to announce the playwrights and translators for New Nordic Voices, a new translation programme for emerging Nordic playwrights. The scheme aim s to enable Nordic talent to find an audience overseas, gaining further recognition through the translation of their text.
The selected texts from the participating countries, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland form part of a showcase 29 March - 2 April 2021, hoping to give the contemporary Nordic voices a platform. The playwrights selected are emerging playwrights from each country, who have had som e professional experience but whose work has not been translated into English before.
They also represent a diverse and multicultural Nordic region, with a strong focus on female voices. Each playwright is mentored by an established translator and receives a full English translation of their play at the end of the programme, which ends in a digital showcase.
The showcase week takes place 29 March - 2 April for an online audience, with a reading of extracts from each play, by a group of UK perform ers and directors. Other events during the showcase week include panel discussions, masterclasses, audio plays, podcast interviews and a networking room.
