Alpine Fellowship Prizes for Academic Writing, Theatre, Visual Art and Writing

In 2022, the Alpine Fellowship will grant five awards for the best responses in academic writing, theatre, visual art, poetry, and writing to the theme ‘Freedom’.

The winner of each prize will receive a cash prize (amount varies by award) and in some cases an additional grant towards travel in order to attend the Fellowship’s annual symposium in Fjällnäs, Sweden. All food and accommodation during the symposium is covered by the Alpine Fellowship.

Runners up will also be invited to attend the Fjällnäs symposium, all food and accommodation covered. Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to a total of £500.

The prizes are open to all nationalities.

The Alpine Fellowship Theatre Prize 2022

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN.

Awarded for the best playwriting response theme of the Alpine Fellowship 2022 - Freedom.

The prize will be £3,000 plus a rehearsed reading at the fellowship’s annual symposium to which the winner will be invited to attend. Runners up will be invited to attend the symposium, their travel expenses will be reimbursed up to a total of £500 and all food and accommodation will be covered.

Rules:

  • The final piece must be no more than 45 minutes in length.

  • The final piece must require no more than four actors.

  • The winning play will be performed as a rehearsed reading so simplicity in staging is preferred.

  • This prize is open to anyone above 18 years of age.

  • All entries must be written in English.

  • Plays must not have previously been performed, including as a reading or workshop production.

  • Playwrights at any stage of their career are eligible to apply.

  • Submissions will be judged anonymously so please ensure your name does not appear anywhere on your submission materials.

Submission:

To apply you will be asked to submit the following:

  1. A 1-2 detailed page synopsis of your proposed story.

  2. A sample of previous work of at least 10 pages.

The Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize 2022

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN.

Awarded for the best piece of writing on the theme of the Alpine Fellowship 2022 - Freedom.

The winner will receive a £10,000 cash prize. A £3,000 cash prize will go to the second place, and £2,000 to the third place runner up. The winner and two runners up are invited to attend the symposium.

Rules:

  • Open to all nationalities and to anyone aged 18 and above.

  • All entries must be written in English.

  • Submissions must be standalone and cannot be extracts from a larger piece.

  • Poetry must be submitted to the Alpine Fellowship Poetry Prize. Poetry submissions to the Writing Prize will be considered ineligible.

  • Applicants can enter more than one prize in a single year, but it MUST be with different pieces of work. One piece of work can only be entered once.

  • All genres permitted.

  • A maximum of 2,500 words per entry.

  • Limited to one entry per person.

  • Text must not have been published, self-published or accepted for publication in print or online, or have won or been placed in another competition at any time (including the Alpine Fellowship Academic Writing Prize).

  • Due to the volume of applications the judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into following the results.

  • Submissions will be judged anonymously, so please ensure that your name does not appear anywhere on your work.
