Satellite Galway 2020
Back in March we postponed our Galway Satellite Meeting planned for June 2020 due to the travel restrictions and lockdown measures imposed by COVID-19. Given the continued uncertainty around travel and gatherings in Ireland and Europe in the months ahead, we’ve decided to present a condensed version of the initial Satellite programme online - and on-site with a limited number of participants for those who’ll be able to travel safely - on 2-3 December 2020.
So the December Satellite Meeting will tackle what is one of the most urgent topics of our time. It will explore relationships between artists, the arts ecosystem and the planet. Taking cognisance of the climate crisis and actions needed, the Meeting will take place simultaneously online and in Galway, on Ireland’s Atlantic coast.
Through a digital programme of speeches, working groups, conversations and engagements with artists, the Meeting will investigate how to adapt and limit the damage being done. It will examine practical and philosophical responses to imagine an ecology fit for the future.
Everyone attending the Satellite Meeting online or in person will experience Galway with its powerful sense of place and the art it inspires. All will be invited to take part in a Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture project tracing the interplay between landscape, climate and culture.
Join our Satellite Meeting conversation and help generate ideas for a performing arts ecology that's fit for our future and the planet.
Both IETM members and non-members are welcome to participate. Registration opens in September.
