Theatre Info Finland (TINFO) awards grants for translations of Finnish plays into foreign languages twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The TINFO Grant is available also for the translation of performance subtitles, however, if the grant appllication is for the translation of subtitles, please mention this in the application form.
The total amount of TINFO grants for translations for the year of 2026 is 10 000 euros. The TINFO Grant is awarded in collaboration with the Arvi Saloranta foundation. The next round for the applications will be announced in August-September 2026.
Grants for the publication of works or anthologies can be applied from FILI - Finnish Literature Exchange.
Who can apply for a TINFO Grant?
Playwrights, drama agencies, theatres, festivals or translators may apply for a grant. The grant will be paid directly to the translator.
Criteria
In the evaluation process, we consider especially the following factors: potential international productions of the play, whether the translation is part of a grand project, and the status of the performing theatre or festival in the target country. The other possible international potential of the play will also be evaluated.
The intented purpose of the TINFO translation grant is to support younger playwrights and to encourage the translation of Finnish plays that have not yet been translated into any other languages.
The translator of a play supported by a TINFO grant must be a native speaker of the target language. The translator should also have experience in drama translations. Translations that are made by non-native speakers of the target language may be accepted if there are sufficient grounds to support the decision.
The translation must be completed no later than six (6) months after the grant has been awarded.
