Three Finnish plays head for Vilnius

Elli Salo’s Alina, Mika Myllyaho’s Garage and Tuomas Timonen’s Stabbed for Complaining About the Noise will be given a dramatic reading at a theatre festival in November organised by the Lithuanian National Theatre.

Versme is an upcoming festival of dramatic readings organised by the Lithuanian National Theatre in Vilnius in the 22nd-25th November. This year, the festival programme will focus on three Finnish plays: Elli Salo’s Alina, Mika Myllyaho’s Garage and Tuomas Timonen’s Stabbed for Complaining About the Noise

Festival coordinator Rasa Kregždaitė explained their choice:

At the festival we aim to give a varied view of Finnish playwriting and we believe that these three plays do exactly that. It is great that we can present not only playwrights that are well known for Lithuanian audience, such as Mika Myllyaho, but also emerging voices.”

The featured plays were chosen from the New Plays from Finland collection by a selection panel chaired by creative director Marius Ivaškevičius. The dramatic readings will be directed by newly graduated theatre directors, and the festival is an opportunity for them to make their debut on the national stage.

TINFO has contributed to the festival by sharing information about contemporary Finnish plays, and the LUO mobility project will provide financial assistance towards the visiting playwrights’ travel costs to Vilnius. Finnish to Lithuanian translator Aida Krilavičienė has received a TINFO translation grant to support the translations of both Alina and Garage. Stabbed for Complaining About the Noise will be translated into Lithuanian by Viltarė Urbaitė

The further information about Versme will be announced on the theatre's website.
