Viirus GUEST: Open Call
Teater Viirus has been curating an annual program of guest performances in its new venue in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki since 2017. Twice a year Viirus welcomes applications to its Viirus GUEST repertoire through open call. The aim is to enrich the art scene in Helsinki and especially in Jätkäsaari district and to offer vacant spaces to freelancers and independent performing arts companies.
All guest performances are rent-based, which means that guest performers pay a modest fee for the space and, in turn, receive full ticket revenues. Please not that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we reserve the right for changes.
Schedule and the application process
The performance schedule for productions accepted through the current open call to Viirus’ Main Hall, is April-July 2021-2023. For productions aimed at Viirus’ other stages (Studio 1, Amphi, Gallery), the performance schedule is all year 2021 and 2022. Rehearsal times are available around the year.
Deadline for the current open call application is 8.10.2020.
We aim to answer all applications within two months after the application deadline. The curating decisions are made by the Viirus’ artistic collective in collaboration with its Program Producer.
Your application should contain a short project description and information about the applicant. Technical details and other needs or requirements (e.g. audience capacity) as well as the preferred rental period should also be
indicated. You may also add further information, pictures or attachments that help clarify or visualise your intended project. If possible, we ask you to submit a video recording.
What are we looking for?
We welcome high-quality and professional artistic performances that inspire and fascinate both us at Viirus and our audience. In the process of choosing the guest performances, we particularly take into account the following criteria:
- Productions that challenge conventions and/or present new, surprising and interesting themes and methods
- Premieres or productions that have not been produced in Helsinki before
- Projects and productions that promote linguistic and cultural diversity and/or are dealing with equality issues
- Productions or production processes that activate the local community
- Well-produced and financially realistic projects.
