Dance Theatre Minimi's Open Call for 2022-2023

Dance Theatre Minimi is a Kuopio-based professional dance theatre and multifaceted community of performing arts. Maria Stage of Kuopio City Theatre serves as the company's home venue. Minimi mainly produces works suitable for touring, and more than half of the annual performances occur outside of the home theatre.

In the 2020s', Minimi has collaborated, i.e. with Kuopio City Theatre, MimoArt Company, Pori Dance Company, Dance Theatre Rimpparemmi, Dance Theatre Tsuumi, Theatre NÄYTTÄMÖ and several freelance working groups. 

Dance Theatre Minimi is looking for new works for Autumn 2022 - Spring 2023 through the Open Call. Minimi targets the call at professionals in the field of performing arts. 

Minimi seeks projects on a broad spectrum of physical performing arts (physical theatre, dance, circus, performance art). We encourage articulating the proposal in terms of dance performance or choreographic stage. We primarily seek projects for Maria Stage.

You can propose a project with an already gathered or mostly gathered artistic working group. You can also submit your idea as a choreographer/director without an existing working group.

We handle the applications in two rounds. In the first round, we assess the applications anonymously regarding the project idea and plan. In the second round, we assess the applications as a whole. We will inform you about the decisions by the end of the year 2021. Send your application the latest on 21.11. by filling the application form here:

Minimi will provide the following for the chosen productions:

• Salaries of the working group for 1-2 months' working period 
• 3-5 performances at Minimi's home venue
• Space in a rehearsal studio in Kuopio 1-2 weeks before the premiere. Other rehearsals should happen at the hometown of the working group.
• Travel to Kuopio (within Finland) and accommodation in Kuopio
• Recording and photography of the performance, marketing dossier
• Help for touring after the premiere

In addition:

• Minimi can provide the services of its light designer
• Minimi can provide 1-3 of its permanent staff members as performers.

Minimi requires the following from the chosen works:

• the primary focus is physical expression
• suitable for touring, possibilities to adapt the piece for diverse performance locations
• The performance can tour with one technician after the premiere, and it is realisable with Minimi's technical equipment.
• most of the working group members should be based in Finland
