And the 2021 Thalia Prize for the Best Performing Arts production goes to…
Thalia Prize awarded to collaborative performing arts production celebrating equality and innovation.
The Finnish Thalia Prize recognises achievements in the field of performing arts, including theatre, dance and circus. This year, a total of 20 individual prizes were given out, including the Performance of the Year prize presented by Theatre Info Finland (TINFO). The prize went to I det stora landskapet (In the great landscape) a collaboration involving two musical ensembles and two theatres: Resonaarigroup, Wegelius Kammarstråkar, DuvTeatern and Svenska Teatern.
I det stora landskapet was praised not only for its fresh and unique approach to the performing arts but also for the social and political message it delivers. The stage must be a space for equality, it says, and audiences must be offered opportunities to experience a sense of recognition and belonging.
Comments from the jury:
In I det stora landskapet, the stage becomes a site of genuine equality. The performers come face-to-face, and heart-to-heart, with each other and with their audience, making I det stora landskapet a unique achievement in its field.
