Von Finnland aus in die Welt

Theater Info Finnland (TINFO) erhielt 28 Bewerbungen um eine Teilnahme bei der Internationalisierung von Theater und Performancekunst. Das dreijährige MOTI-Programm zielt auf solche künstlerisch-produktiven Formate, die den Projekten neues Publikum bringen und darüber hinaus eine längere Lebensdauer haben als bislang.

Für das MOTI-Internationalisierungsprogramm, das auf Gruppen und Duos zugeschnitten ist, wurden fünf Zusammenschlüsse ausgewählt: Hirvanen und Valkeapää, Jalostamo², Oblivia, sadsongskomplex:fi und W A U H A U S.

Maija Hirvanen und Juha Valkeapää sind schon lange beruflich in Finnland und international tätig und gehören unter anderem zu den Stammkünstlern des Baltic Circle Festivals in Helsinki. Jetzt vereinen sie ihre speziellen Fähigkeiten und machen ihr erstes gemeinsames Projekt.

Jalostamo² ist die Theatergruppe der Schauspielerin Anna Lipponen, des Lichtgestalters und Bühnenbildners Petri Tuhkanen und des Produktionsleiters Jaakko Lenni-Taattola und arbeitet gerade mit dem berühmten estnischen NO99-Theater zusammen.

Die ausgefallene Gruppe Oblivia ist schon in vielen europäischen Ländern bekannt. Für das Jubiläumsjahr 2020 plant die bald 20 Jahre alt werdende Gruppe eine große internationale Gemeinschaftsproduktion.

Die von Theaterregisseur und Dramatiker Jari Juutinen und der Schauspielerin Liisa Sofia Pöntinen gegründete Gruppe sadsongskomplex:fi wurde zum zweiten Mal zum Festival OFF d'Avignon eingeladen, ist viel in Russland getourt und u. a. auf dem Edinburgh Fringe aufgetreten.

Das vielseitige W A U H A U S hat eine neuartige, kollektive Art zu arbeiten und Produktionen zu machen entwickelt. Das Kollektiv strebt den Aufbau eines internationalen Koproduzenten-Netzwerks an, langfristige Zusammenarbeit, neue Publikumskreise und darüber hinaus eine längere Lebensdauer für ihre Produktionen.

Während des Auswahlprozesses des MOTI-Programms gab TINFO einen Teil der Bewerbungen an ausländische Fachleute zur Beurteilung. Ragnheiður Skúladóttir ist die Leiterin des isländischen LÓKAL-Festivals. Max-Philip Aschenbrenner hat in der Leitung von verschiedenen Festivals in Deutschland, der Schweiz und Österreich gearbeitet. Daniel Blanga-Gubbay kuratierte das belgische Kunstenfestivaldesarts. Die Kunst-Aktivistin Ruth McGowan hat gerade die Leitung des Dublin Fringe Festivals übernommen.

Wofür steht MOTI?

Der Name des Programms MOTI kommt vom lateinischen Wort motus, das Bewegung bedeutet. MOTI unterstützt Theater- und Performancekunst auf dem Weg über Finnlands Grenzen hinaus. Andererseits verweist MOTI auf die Motivation, deren Bedeutung besonders deutlich wird, wenn Theaterschaffende sich entschließen zum Broterwerb ins Ausland zu gehen. Es braucht den brennenden Wunsch, also Motivation, um auf dem internationalen Markt der darstellenden Kunst mit seiner eigenen Kunst in Wettbewerb zu treten.

Drei schnelle Fragen an Max-Philip Aschenbrenner, ein Programmleiter der Ruhrtriennale  

Wie ist die Wettbewerbssituation der darstellenden Kunst auf dem europäischen Markt?
Immer mehr Künstler, immer weniger Geld. In wenigen Worten gesagt, trifft dies die Situation gerade der zeitgenössischen Bühnenkunst. Nicht nur der politische Rechtsrutsch und die gekürzten öffentlichen Gelder aber sind Gründe dafür, auch die Überproduktion von Ressourcen: Die Anzahl neuer Studiengänge im Kunstbereich in den letzten Jahren ist geradezu explodiert.  
 
Verstärkend tritt zu dieser Gemengelage hinzu, dass der Bildende Kunst Markt immer volatiler und spekulativer wird. Zwischen diesen beiden Seiten hin- und hergerissen, zitiere ich am liebsten den kürzlich verstorbenen Bert Neumann: „Es gibt gute Zeiten für die Kunst und es gibt schlechte Zeiten für die Kunst. Im Moment leben wir in schlechten Zeiten."

Was wird von den Theatergruppen verlangt, wenn sie internationale Auftrittsmöglichkeiten haben möchten?

Da sich die Szenen mittlerweile so stark differenzieren, kann man diese Frage nicht wirklich scharf beantworten. Banal gesagt brauchen die Gruppen dazu vor allem Geld. 

Sie haben die Projekte der Gruppen kennen gelernt, die sich für das MOTI-Programm beworben haben. Welche besonderen Fähigkeiten haben Ihrer Meinung nach finnische Künstler und Gruppen?

Es ist interessant, wie Finnland sich in den letzten Jahren auf der internationalen Landkarte positioniert hat. Nachdem es in ganz Skandinavien international eher ruhig war, sind besonders Finnland und Norwegen seit den 2010er Jahren nicht mehr aus dem Kreis der opinion leader wegzudenken. Das hat neben einer jungen Generation von PrgrogrammmacherInnen meiner Meinung nach ganz zentral auch mit den KünstlerInnen zu tun, die sich neuen Formen gegenüber sehr offen gezeigt haben.

Das Kleinere und das Größere. Die kleine Theatergruppe Jalostamo² aus Helsinki und das Theater NO99 aus Tallin, dessen Produktionen im In- und Ausland viel Anerkennung erhalten haben, arbeiten an einer gemeinsamen Inszenierung. Mit dieser Zusammenarbeit beginnt Jalostamo² seine dreiteilige Reihe Immigration nation. Der erste Teil heißt Das Narrenschiff (Kihnu Jõnn), was auf die archetypische Geschichte von Menschen, die unterwegs sind, verweist, weg von Zuhause und wieder zurück.

Die Schauspielerin und künstlerische Leiterin von Jalostamo² Anna Lipponen umreißt zu Probenbeginn im Frühling 2018 die gerade entstehende Reihe folgendermaßen:

Mobilität kann so vieles bedeuten: physische Bewegung, Migration, Nomadentum, Umsiedlung, Flucht, Fremdheit, aber auch geistige Bewegung, verändern der Gedankenwelten, Prozesse im allgemeinen.


Alles ist in Bewegung

Mobilität erstreckt sich im Fall von Jalostamo² auch auf den Inhalt der Kunst und die Form, in der die Produktion gemacht wird. Bei der Entwicklung von Modellen dieser Art hilft das MOTI-Internationalisierungsprogramm von Theater Info Finnland (TINFO), für das Jalostamo² ausgewählt wurde.

Schon vor der Inszenierung mit NO99 waren die Macher von Jalostamo² mit Estland in Kontakt. Finnland und Estland verbindet neben der Sprachverwandtschaft auch eine Wasserverbindung von nur ein paar Stunden über den Finnischen Meerbusen. Anna Lipponen spielt in Gemeinschaftsproduktion mit dem Estnischen Dramatheater das Stück Kädettömät (Die Handlosen), das von ihr geschrieben wurde. Der naheliegende Kontakt zum künstlerischen Leitungsteam von NO99 Ene-Liis Semper und Tiit Ojasoo und zum Ensemble des Theaters entstand auch über die Arbeit. Das finnische Performance Design hat weltweit einen guten Ruf, und der Lichtgestalter-Bühnenbildner Petri Tuhkanen, der andere künstlerische Leiter von Jalostamo², hat jahrelang mit den Künstlern von NO99 zusammengearbeitet.

Die Premiere vom nomadischen Narrenschiff ist im September 2018, und die Inszenierung bleibt im Programm des NO99, um von dort aus in die Welt zu gehen.

Zu Beginn diesen Jahres hat die Kooperation von Jalostamo² und NO99 den von der finnisch-estnischen Kulturstiftung vergebenen Preis erhalten. NO99 wurde letzten Dezember in Rom mit dem Europäischen Theaterpreis für neue Realitäten ausgezeichnet.

Kunst soll aus Meinungsverschiedenheit entstehen

Ein Kunstwerk auf die Welt zu bringen kann eine spielerische Sache sein, in der dem Zufall genügend Raum gelassen wird. Die Choreografin und Performancekünstlerin Maija Hirvanen und der Stimm- und Performancekünstler Juha Valkeapää geben ihrer ersten gemeinsamen Arbeit Zeit, sich in Ruhe zu entwickeln.

Die Produktion mit dem Arbeitstitel Life as we know it wird 2020 herauskommen, und dafür internationale Geburtshilfe bekommen. Hirvanen und Valkeapää wurden für das MOTI-Programm von Theater Info Finnland (TINFO) ausgewählt, das finnischen Theater- und Performancekunstschaffenden dabei hilft, für ihre Produktionen neues Publikum auf dem internationalen Markt zu erschließen.

TINFO hat die Künstler interviewt und daraus wurde ein Sprung ins Ausufernde.

Hirvanen und Valkeapää hatten sich zufällig beide vorgenommen, die Vita Activa von Hannah Arendt zu lesen, und dass der künstlerische Prozess in dieser Phase zu einer gleichen Leseliste führt, verbildlicht die unbewussten Schwarmverbindungen (Synchronisationen), deren Untersuchung Life as we know it als Thema bekommen hat. Emphatie, Angst, Liebe, Vergebung, Myzel, Bakterien, der Ball als Objekt und Wasser liegen bei beiden Künstlern zu Beginn als Spielfiguren auf dem Tisch. Ein künstlerischer Konsens ist nicht das Ziel, im Gegenteil, das Thema braucht bei der Umsetzung von seinem kleinsten Anfang an Meinungsverschiedenheit um frischen Wind zu bekommen.


Im Zeichen eines enormen Lebenshungers
 

Maija Hirvanen und Juha Valkeapää haben beide, jeder auf seine Art, eine lange Karriere als Künstler hinter sich und auf ihrem Weg mit vielen Künstlern aus Finnland und von anderswo zusammen gearbeitet. Sie kennen die Arbeit des anderen, und jetzt ist gerade der richtige Moment, gemeinsam eine Produktion zu machen:

Im mittleren Alter angekommen, beziehungsweise an dessen Schwelle, ist der Lebenshunger bei uns beiden wieder auf eine neue Art und Weise groß. Wir fangen also bei nichts weniger an, als im Angesicht der Unfassbarkeit des gesamten Lebens. So als würde man dem Leben selbst in die Augen gucken, ganz genau.

Genau gucken kann bedeuten, dass in einem Punkt, einem Körnchen, einer Zelle, vielleicht einer Bewegung oder der Stimme eine ganze Welt zu finden ist, wenn sie lange genug erforscht werden. Immer mit der Ruhe. Das unterstützt auch die Leiterin des Dublin Fringe Festivals Ruth McGowan, die Bewerbungen der Theatergruppen für das MOTI-Programm gelesen hat: Work passionately and with rigour on the ideas that compel you as an artist. Don’t rush. Hold a steadfast commitment to your impulses.

Das Duo hat einen guten Grund, das Leben in seine Atome zu zerlegen:

Life as we know it weist auf den Gedanken hin, dass unser Wissen und unsere Erfahrung des Lebens, dessen was es ist oder sein könnte, immer unvollständig ist. Wir streben nach einer Art Raum des nicht-Wissens, einem Raum, in dem wir Dinge nicht zu sehr mit unseren Gedanken, unserem Sein und Handeln ausgebessert haben.
 

Langsamkeit und Gelassenheit als Zutaten der Produktion
 

Zeit ist zu kostbar, um sie mit Eile zu vergeuden. Diese aphoristische Schlussfolgerung schwelt im Hintergrund der Planungen von Maija Hirvanen und Juha Valkeapää, die das Projekt betreffen. Sie nennen es beim Namen: das Projekt wird langsam und ohne Eile gemacht. Ich vermute, wir sprechen jetzt über das wesentliche Thema der Arbeit:

Ja. Gelassenheit und Langsamkeit sind die Herangehensweise und die Haltung, mit der das Projekt gemacht wird. Sie bestimmen, was daraus wird. Zeit ist wertvoll, wertvollen Dingen Zeit geben und Zeit nehmen. Innehalten ist ein Mittel, um weiter zu kommen. Langsamkeit beruhigt – oft. Wer langsam ist, dem genügt eine Sache für lange Zeit. Aber Langsamkeit und Gelassenheit sind nicht das Gleiche. Wir machen unsere Arbeit in Ruhe, aber wir sind beide dynamische Charaktere, die viele Seiten haben.

Inmitten der Rushhour des Lebens und in einer Arbeitskultur, die auf Effektivität beruht und auf Leistung abzielt, erleben es Hirvanen und Valkeapää als reizvoll, Orte und Räume zu schaffen, in denen kein Stress ist. Leicht ist es nicht, aber aus Sicht der Künstler von Wichtigkeit ersten Ranges:

In der Ruhe und Gelassenheit können andere Facetten von Dingen, Wesen und Menschen zum Vorschein kommen, weil für sie Platz ist. Manchmal schafft Gelassenheit den Raum für eine unglaubliche Intensität und einen Wechsel der Dynamik. Raum und Zeit bedingen sich so gegenseitig. Auch in der Langsamkeit ist ein Wert erkennbar, der Möglichkeiten der Zeit öffnet.

Ich verstehe den Gedanken der Künstler auch so, dass aus einer Vielfalt nicht mit Gewalt irgendetwas Einheitliches gepresst werden soll. Etwas gemeinsam Gemachtes besteht nicht aus Einem oder Zweien. Es ist Vieles, aus dem auch Vieles entsteht.

Premiere in Berlin: Des Mannes Rippe als Neuinterpretation

Der finnische Künstlerprofessor und Regisseur Mikko Roiha hat die von Maria Jotuni 1914 geschriebene Volkskomödie neu inszeniert. Die von acht Theatern als Kooperation durchgeführte Produktion wird in Berlin geprobt. Die Premiere findet am 07.09.2018 im Pier 9 (Hasenheide 9, 10967 Berlin) auf der Probebühne Heimathafen Neukölln statt. Anschließend tourt das Stück u.a. in Finnland.

Das Freie Theater Finnland hatte bereits zahlreiche Vorführungen in Berlin u.a. im Ballhaus Ost und in der Brotfabrik sowie in Stuttgart im Theater am Olgaeck.

 
Maria Jotuni – Mikko Roiha: DES MANNES RIPPE

Das Theaterstück von Maria Jotuni gehört zu den beliebtesten und meistgespielten Bühnenklassikern in Finnland. Des Mannes Rippe ist eine Komödie über Menschen in einem kleinen Ort, die auf der Suche nach einem Partner zum Anlehnen sind.

Der Regisseur Mikko Roiha führt die Figuren des Stückes mit einem einfühlsamen Blick. Des Mannes Rippe duftet nach Äpfeln, und die Liebe – die ist wie eine butterweiche Waffel, die noch wundervoll in der Hand und im Mund brennt.

SAMPO 2018 – International Puppet Theatre Festival 22 - 26 Aug 2018, Helsinki

Puppet Theatre Sampo is organizing an international puppet theatre festival for the second time this year. Stay tuned for SAMPO 2018, coming in August!

The festival program will be announced later in the spring. Again we will offer performances for both children and adults, visual theatre and music as well as puppetry. A festival club is open in the evenings at Sampos Fairytale Café, offering interesting artists for adult audiences and a place for the audience and artists to meet.

Performances will take place in Puppet Theatre Sampo in Erottajankatu, but also other venues nearby.

Our partners and collaborators in the festival are Helsingin Juhlaviikot / Helsinki Festival, The City of Helsinki, Teatteri Avoimet Ovet, Päivälehti Museum among others.

How to co-operate? Experiences and best practices from cross-disciplinary and international projects and tools for artistic collaborations and regional networks.

Northern Platform is an encounter of performing arts professionals from the Northern parts of Nordic countries. It is a one-day event for mutual sharing, discussion and collaboration.  Northern Platform aims  to provide tools for regional collaboration in the field of performing arts and the event is targeted to artists and other art professionals who are interested in co-operation in the High North region.

Northern Platform #1 provides new angles to networks and regional collaboration. The invited speakers are experienced artists, developers and representatives of performing arts networks and organisations from the Nordic countries. The day's schedule will consists of speeches, case presentations, panel discussions and mutual sharing. Northern Platform #1 is an opportunity to improve one's own capacity for regional collaboration, wider the perspective of Northern performing arts and find new partners for the future collaborations.

Invited speakers: artists Thomas Eisenhardt (DK), Juha Hurme (FI), Catherine Poher (DK/FR), Ida Løken Valkeapää (NO), researcher Sami Keto (FI), producer and expert of Arctic collaboration Inger-Marie Lampe-Lupton (NO) and others.

In Northern Platform #1 you will also hear more about a recently established Northern Network for Performing Arts. The participants will also have an opportunity to influence on the concept and activities of the network and create new inclusive practices.

Future is Present Encounters at Tampere Theatre Festival | 10-11 Aug 2018

International Performance Art Workshop 22 July 2018, Sippola | Applications 30 June 2018

International Performance Art Workshop BODY - ENVIRONMENT - SOUND

The workshop is organized and facilitated by Energia Akatemia in collaboration with Art Center Antares. Location is Sippola, Finland (200 km east from Helsinki). Duration is 5 days.  

About the program: During the workshop, we will have lectures and hands on explorations. We will work in the facilities of Antares and in the selected locations outdoors. Some special places to be explored in the area are; Pitkäkoski (river) Hamina, Repovesi National Park, Sippola landscape. We will work with methods such as active listening, sound walks, field recordings, embodiment, vocal and physical storytelling and drifting in spaces.

PUBLIC EVENT, OPEN SESSION WILL BE ORGANIZED 22.7.2018 IN THE ART CENTER ANTARES YARD 2PM.

Full Moon Dance Festivals Courses 25-29 July 2018, Pyhäjärvi | Deadline 31 May 2018

This year’s Full Moon Dance Festival features an especially extensive array of courses. Young, adult, and senior dancers alike are welcome to attend, and the level of applied teaching is suitable for first-timers and amateurs as well as professionals.

The teachers are dancers at the top of their field, all internationally acknowledged pedagogues and artists. In addition to Finnish instructors, teachers are also arriving from Spain, Germany, Taiwan, Switzerland, Burkina Faso and Senegal. The courses tie in closely with the festival program. Attendees will have the chance to see their instructors’ own performances live, offering a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of both the guidance received and the teachers’ artistic methods.

The course registration ends on 31.5.2018.

We are creating a database of professional non-Finnish born Artists’ and culture workers, the aim of this database is to help and promote their work, as a tool for giving visibility and facilitate to Institutions on the sector to find experts with this specific feature.

How does it work?

We open the application period twice a year (2018:  01-31 May and 01-30 November)

The applicants would be selected by the current board.

We will promote the database among our partners* and other institutions or programs consulting us for non-Finnish born artists’ and culture workers.

ILONA – Eine Datenbank für Aufführungen

ILONA ist eine Finnische Theaterdatenbank, deren Onlineversion gemeinsam von TINFO und dem finnischen Theatermuseum entwickelt wurde.

Die Datenbank ILONA beinhaltet alle professionellen finnischen Theaterstücke vom 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. 

Als Suchkriterien kann man den Namen eines Stücks angeben, den Zeitpunkt der Aufführung, die Spielstätte oder den Verfasser. Auch nach Besetzung und Stab kann gesucht werden.

Neben der komplexen Aufführungssuche ist es auch möglich, eine Schnellsuche durchzuführen, indem man einfach den Namen einer mitwerkenden Person oder den Namen eines Stückes angibt.
